“I always remember a new administrator at LSU saying that they admired the “roll up your sleeves and go to work” attitude that permeated LSU Athletics at the time and especially with the facilities group. That hasn’t changed one bit about our facility group over time.
They don’t take short cuts. Many championships are won with short cuts and cheating (such as the 2017 Astros). But not our facility group. They use garbage cans to clean up, not to bang on. They win with no short cuts, they just roll up their sleeves and go out and do good, hard work.
The LHSAA State Track and Field meet on May 8th was a quagmire. Rain, leaves, wood chips. It looked like the Parade Grounds after a home football game. Fearless leader Savannah May put out the call for help. And the men and women of facilities came running. It was like watching the great 80’s movie “Ghostbusters” as they strapped on their backpack blowers, ready to save the city of the ghosts running rampant. Only this time the ghosts were wet leaves and wood chips. They put the jet pack blowers to work and started pushing all that mess off the track (never crossing the streams). It took time. It was raining. On a late Friday afternoon, when I’m sure they would have rather been winding down and heading home, they were there, rolling up their sleeves going to work. No complaining. No questioning. Just work.
They did a fantastic job. No other facilities group in the country could do what they did.
It’s their dedication and just good old fashion work ethic that makes them the National Champions of facilities groups. Hang the banner. Have the parade. Present the rings.
A HUGE thanks to all of them for their “go to work” attitudes. True Champions.” ~ Nominated by Todd Lane
