May 2026: Student-Athletes of the Month
Many student-athletes describe the spring season as a collision of competing priorities, expectations, and emotions. Even highly successful athletes can feel stretched thin during this period because the demands are happening simultaneously rather than sequentially. Academically, they have final projects, anxiety about grades, and mental fatigue after sustaining their performance over a full semester. Athletically, spring can intensify these feelings because post-season qualifications are high-stakes, roster roles and playing times are critiqued, and injuries and physical wear accumulate. But what sometimes goes unsaid is the emotional tole: the pressure to hold it together, the fear of letting others down, isolation because many just see them as performers, and exhaustion that is masked as loss of motivation or irritability. These Student-Athletes of the Month have stepped into this challenge because they understand that learning to balance the load is equally as important. This is not easy for all, but with a little support and practice, the rewards can be great!
The LSU Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes (CCACSA) recognizes student-athletes for their scholastic and community achievements each month. Student-athletes are chosen based on their commitment to academic success and for their devotion to volunteerism and service to the community.
