“As a former member of the Operations Crew, I know from firsthand experience the work this unit performs and the impact they have on our athletic department. Their days are filled with long hours, physical labor, spontaneous requests, and urgent expectations. They work behind the scenes alongside our entire operations department to ensure that our athletes can train and compete, our fans are comfortable, and our facilities operate seamlessly. They are committed to every task at hand, no matter how big or small, and do not waiver in their commitment to excellence, authenticity, perseverance, respect, and service. While deserving, they do not seek recognition, so I am proud to do so on their behalf.
Over the past few months, LSU Tennis has undertaken two major projects simultaneously: a complete replacement of our HVAC system and the resurfacing of all 18 courts, including our 12 outdoor courts and 6 indoor courts. Both projects required significant coordination, planning, and physical effort to prepare our facility for contractors and ensure the work could be completed efficiently.
For the court resurfacing project, we knew the day would come when every court would need to be completely cleared. Benches, umpire chairs, nets, storage items, and other equipment all had to be removed. In addition, the windscreens and net dividers that surround our indoor courts had to be raised and secured to provide access for the resurfacing crews. At the same time, the HVAC replacement project required access to virtually every room in our indoor facility, including coaches' offices and team spaces. The Operations Crew stepped in without hesitation, helping move furniture, reorganize workspaces, and prepare areas so that construction could proceed while minimizing disruptions to daily operations.
When the work was complete, the job was only halfway done. The crew then returned everything to its proper place, reassembled equipment, reorganized spaces, and ensured our facility was ready to welcome everyone back into a first-class environment. Throughout the entire process, they approached every challenge efficiently and with a positive attitude. Their willingness to do whatever was needed, whenever it was needed, embodied the core values that define our department.
Simply put, we could not have accomplished these projects without them, and I cannot thank them enough. For their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to serving others, I am honored to nominate the Operations Crew for this month’s recognition.” ~nominated by Ben Hershey
