PRIDE Bake Sale a Sweet Success!
LSU Athletics Human Resources hosted our Sweet Liberation Bake Sale in celebration of PRIDE Month with tenthusiastic engagement from our coaches, support staff, and professional staff! The 2-day bake sale allowed us to indulge in some of the best desserts- baked and prepared by our own employees! Surrounded by all the sweetness that desserts can provide, we used this Athleticsβ community event to support our friends and family who identify as part of the LGBTQ community. In addition to feeding our sweet tooth, handouts were available that included interesting historical facts about the LGBTQ history. The cherry on top was the option to donate money to support Baton Rouge Pride, a local non-profit organization that supports the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
While we were not able to quantify the exact amount that the Athletics Department specifically contributed to Baton Rouge Pride, but during the week of the bake sale, the organization's donations increased by over $2,000! Itβs a great feeling to know we contributed significantly and assisted in them achieving their financial goal for the month.
And whatβs a good bake sale without a friendly competition. Expect nothing less from an elite Athletics Department! We had a total of 15 participants who brought sweet treats and 13 items were entered into the βBEST OF THE BESTβ competition. Winners were divided into two categories: Judgeβs Choice and Peopleβ Choice. Three secret judges tasted every dessert to determine the Judgeβs Choice and the patrons chose the Peopleβs Choice award by attending, tasting, and voting on their favorite treat.
