Timeout: Kickin’ it with Sariyah!

Timeout! Let’s take a moment to get to know Sariyah Bailey!

What’s your pregame music?

“Honestly, any Drake song would get me going. I mainly listen to him. I do have a certain playlist that I listen to. It's called ‘Locked In,’ and it's just a bunch of songs that would just get me locked in, like high-tempo kind of songs.”

Do you have a favorite memory while you were competing with Canada?

“There's countless of memories, but I think my favorite one was when we played France, and I actually had my first assist. It kind of shut out the game, and I think that was our ticket to the quarterfinals. That was one of my favorite memories, just celebrating with the team and getting to that part of the World Cup, and punching our ticket into the quarterfinals”

What is your favorite Louisiana food?

“If I see a beignet, I gotta eat it. I just have to. It doesn't matter if it's early in the morning, lunchtime, or dinner. I will have a beignet. That's one of my favorite foods out here.”

Who inspires you to play your best game?

“I grew up in a very athletic family, and I think my family inspires me to, you know, be the best that I can be. I believe their hard work that they put and their efforts behind the scenes is something that I want to be able to give back to them, and I think they're the ones who inspire me every day to be the best that I can be, especially on the field.”

“From a professional player standpoint, I really look up to Alex Morgan and Lionel Messi- they're both people I've always looked up to since I was young.”

Do you feel like there's any cultural shocks that you've had while living in the U.S. compared to Canada?

“The biggest thing that shocks me is the heat. The heat is crazy down here in the South. That was my biggest obstacle that I had to overcome because it's extremely hot and humid. Where in Canada, it's very cold, and we get a lot of snow.”

How do you mentally take care of yourself throughout the season?

“I feel like it's very important to find other things outside of the sport that will kind of get you away from it. So for me, I'd say music is a big thing. I actually play the guitar and the piano. I do some photography, just to get me outside of sports a little bit, to appreciate the little things, get me out there, and get me outside.”

What's your favorite part about playing for LSU?

“Being a part of such an amazing team and an amazing school, and working with the people. I think the best thing is just being able to represent my family, my friends, and all the people back home…and being a role model to the younger generation back home.”
