Wellness Event Focuses on Pelvic Floor Function in Athletes

Through the support our championship partnership with Our Lady of the Lake, LSU student-athletes joined in a women’s wellness event on Thursday, April 24th. Our focus was on the importance of maintaining the strength the pelvic floor muscles. Team gynecologist Dr. Morgan Bankston taught the group about the functional muscle group as well as specific exercises that help to reduce pelvic floor muscle weakness in women. Both Rebecca Breaux (LSU Student Health Center Nurse Practitioner) and Brittney Willis (Physical Therapist and Certified Athletic Trainer) provided their knowledge and expertise to the group.

“Being a part of student-athlete seminars allows us to focus on a holistic approach to health,” said Dr. Bankston. “This encourages our student athletes to take an active role in their own health and learning about their body and mind. This empowerment leads to a sense of control and responsibility for one’s health, which can improve overall motivation and outcomes.”

Thanks to all who were able to attend and prioritize their health and wellbeing!
