When Silence Means Solidarity

According to the Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN), “The best thing you can do (for a survivor of sexual assault) is to be believe them.”

That is why The Lighthouse Program is hosting a silent march, entitled the “BELIEVE” March (walk) for survivors of sexual assault, Tuesday, March 31st (11:00 AM-12:00 PM).  The event this year will take place on the Parade Grounds.  Immediately following the Believe March hosted by the Lighthouse Program, the 2026 SAAM Kickoff hosted by the Division of Engagement, Civil Rights & Title IX will take place. The Kickoff presents an opportunity to learn more about local resources and discuss how we can end sexual violence together. LSU Athletics partners with these campus collaborators through the work done on the Athletics Council for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence.

The purpose of this event is:

  1. To kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.

  2. To provide an opportunity for survivors, advocates, family, friends, and supporters of survivors (and victims) to come together in a safe and “confidential” way (no one reveals which one they are) and experience the presence of true awareness via a silent march.

  3.  And, most importantly, to send the message to survivors,  “‘I believe you.’  I believe this happened to you, and it is not your fault.” The silent walk will cultivate mindfulness and evoke serious contemplation of survivor and victim experience.
