Congratulations to the LSU Athletics Tiger Life Unit for an outstanding job executing two impactful community initiatives, Reading with a Tiger, sponsored by Woodside Energy, and the 2026 Halloween BOOzar. The launch of Reading with a Tiger represents an especially meaningful investment in Louisiana’s children and their futures. By bringing LSU student-athletes into elementary schools across East Baton Rouge, Terrebonne, Tangipahoa and Calcasieu parishes, the Tiger Life team helped make literacy engaging, personal and inspiring. Nineteen student-athletes representing nine sports visited 10 schools, reaching more than 4,000 students and distributing 5,824 books. Second-grade students each selected three books to take home, while every student in the participating schools received a book of their own. These efforts do more than put books into children’s hands; they create lasting memories, encourage a love of reading and allow young students to see LSU student-athletes as role models who value education and community. Special recognition goes to the Tiger Life team for developing and delivering a new initiative with such meaningful reach, and to Woodside Energy for helping bring this vision to life. Establishing Reading with a Tiger as an annual tradition is an exciting step toward creating a lasting legacy of literacy and opportunity throughout Louisiana.
The Tiger Life team also deserves tremendous praise for its work on the 2026 Halloween BOOzar, continuing a beloved LSU tradition that brings hundreds of children and families to campus to trick-or-treat along Sorority Row, meet their favorite Tigers, and enjoy games and activities with LSU student-athletes. Now celebrating its 29th year, BOOzar is a wonderful example of how LSU Athletics can transform the excitement surrounding its student-athletes into meaningful connections with the community. Together, these initiatives demonstrate the very best of Tiger Life’s mission: developing student-athletes who lead, serve and make a difference beyond competition.
Successfully delivering both a new, multi-parish literacy initiative and a signature community celebration requires vision, organization, collaboration and a genuine commitment to service. Thank you to the entire Tiger Life team for the thoughtful planning, tremendous effort and passion behind these events. Your work strengthens LSU’s relationship with the communities it serves, creates unforgettable experiences for children and families, and reinforces that being a Tiger is about more than winning games.
